(CAPS aligned, term-to-term and grade progression)
OPSA offers online, CAPS-aligned assessments for home-educated learners in Afrikaans or English, assessed by SACE-registered teachers, aligned with home education requirements in line with the BELA Act framework.
Termly (per term, per child) – R250
1.1 Grades R, 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8: Term 1–4 available
1.2 Grades 3, 6, 9: Term 1–3 available
1.3 Important (Grades 3, 6, 9): Term 4 is the End-of-Phase assessment (not a normal term assessment)
Annual (full year, per child) – R800
2.1 Grades R–9: Includes Term 1–4
2.2 Grades 3, 6, 9: Also includes the End-of-Phase assessment
End-of-Phase (Grades 3, 6, 9 only) – R500
3.1 End-of-Phase assessment for Grade 3, 6, or 9
3.2 Cost: R500 per child per assessment
Assessments include all CAPS subjects for the selected grade, including Coding & Robotics.
Because Coding & Robotics is a newer subject, you may choose to:
Assess Coding & Robotics (it will appear on the report), or
Not assess Coding & Robotics (it will not appear on the report)
Coding & Robotics can also be assessed separately. If assessed separately, it is treated as a stand-alone assessment and will not appear on the main report.
The assessment is completed online under parent/guardian supervision and includes:
Quizzes: Access is available once and a time limit applies.
Assignments: Must be completed by hand (typed assignments are not accepted) and then uploaded to the system for teacher marking.
There is no set time or fixed duration for completing the assessment. Home-educated families determine their own programme and schedule, and learners complete assessments when they are ready.
After the assessment is completed and marked, you receive:
An official assessment report
A merit certificate (if the learner achieves an average of 80% or more)
A promotion letter at the end of the year (Term 4 or End-of-Phase, depending on the grade), signed by a SACE-registered teacher
Each learner must have a unique email address (not shared with a parent or sibling). This email is the learner’s unique login/identifier.
Recommended email format:
childnamesurnameyearofbirth@gmail.com (example: liamvanwyk2014@gmail.com)
Tip: If you need to create an email address for your child, you can use Google Family Link to create and supervise a child Google account.
